How to Fix IPTV Buffering and Freezing in Canada

Whether you're catching hockey in Toronto or a CFL game in Calgary, you want everything working fast and without fuss. Buffering is almost always caused by the home network or the player rather than the service itself. Work through these fixes in order; most take only a minute.

Quick checks first

1. Restart the app, then restart the device itself.
2. Unplug your router for 30 seconds and plug it back in.
3. Note whether one channel or every channel is affected. If it's a single channel, tell us which one and when.

1. Check your internet speed

Aim for about 10–15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps or more for 4K, per stream. Anyone else streaming, gaming or downloading at the same time uses part of that. Run a speed test on the same network as your device.

2. Use a stable connection

A stable connection beats a fast one. Ethernet is the most reliable. On Wi-Fi, use the 5 GHz band close to the router and avoid walls and other electronics in between.

3. Clear the cache and update the app

In your device's settings, open the IPTV app and clear its cache. Update the app to the latest version, and reinstall it if the problem continues.

4. Check the player settings

If your player offers a choice of video decoder or player engine, try another one. Lowering the quality for a moment helps you tell whether the connection is the cause.

5. Reduce the load on your network

Pause large downloads, game updates and other streams while you watch. Turn off any VPN on the device or the router as a test, because a VPN can slow the connection.
